If I Could Turn Back Time

Sunday Scribblings #148 - Regrets

Got any? Things you wish you'd done differently? Things you wish you'd said or not said? Things you want to be sure to do and say now so that you don't end up with regrets?

If I Could Turn Back Time

If I could turn back time, I wouldn't have dated shit-ass through all 4 of my high school years - I certainly wouldn't have married him. Although, on the bright side, my daughters are a true blessing.

If I could turn back time, I would have gone on to college immediately out of high school - instead I returned to school as a single mother of 2. Why do I always pick the hard roads?

If I could turn back time, I wouldn't have gone to nursing school - this was my mother's dream not mine. Why oh why didn't I have the courage to follow my dream instead of doing what I thought was right?

If I could turn back time, I would have met you earlier - the one I should have been with all along. Instead we missed many years when we could have been as one. Now I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you.

If I could turn back time, I wouldn't have been such a spendthrift when my children were younger. Buying them things doesn't mean you love then any more - this was a hard lesson for me to learn.

If I could turn back time, I would slow time down - I would enjoy each day as the precious gift it is. Loving my family and connecting with friends, isn't that what life is all about?

If I could turn back time ... hmmm ... if I could turn back time ... nope, I probably wouldn't turn back time. I'm old enough and becoming wise enough to realize I am the person I am today because of all the mistakes in my life. Do I still have regrets - yeah, who doesn't? But my regrets and my mistakes have painted the fabric of my life and if my family can love this old canvas, then so can I.

The most poignant and meaningful paragraph is certainly the last. We are the people we learn to be, and we learn this by making mistakes and enjoying adventures. Nicely done.

I really liked your post. I think I feel the same way...about not wanting to change things.

Nicely written and full of common sense!

I know how you feel about having a few things you'd like to change, and yet... it's those painful moments that helped make us the person we are today... having the wisdom to recognise that, though, ~that~ is golden :)

I couldn't agree more -- I wouldn't turn back time, though there were things I wish I'd done differently. Yet, even with those, I learned, I grew. In the endgame, I was supposed to live that life.
