Sunday Scribblings 141 - I Knew Instantly ...

Sunday Scribblings #141 - "I knew instantly..."

This prompt is inspired by some of you! Often in your comments you will say, "I knew instantly what I was going to write about." So now you have to write about that.

Finish this sentence and then keep on going: "I knew instantly..."

What in your life did you just KNOW?

I knew instantly it would be a disaster as soon as my daughter said it was happening. For eighteen months now, the school district has been working on a new 25 million dollar high school. Parents were told that the transition to the new school would be quick and painless - famous last words ...

The plan was to move into the new school while the kids were on fall break (the first two weeks in October), but, of course, the building wasn't completed. The next date for moving was two weeks before Thanksgiving break. Of course, this didn't happen either.

When my daughter said the scheduled date for moving was to be December 12th - today, this Friday - I was skeptical. My daughter was furious! Here they were in the middle of finals week for the end of the semester, and the kids were having to be orientated to a new school.

So, now they will have one week to get used to a brand-new school building, before being out of school for the two week Christmas holiday. Then the chaos of the first week will bleed into another chaos filled week, as the children will have forgotten were everything is and have to start all over again.

Oh, and did I mention the facts about the new school library? We were guaranteed the new school library would be twice as big as the current library. Reading parents of children who read were all ecstatic - more library room meant more books and research material. But alas, every time adjustments were made to the blueprint, the library would get smaller and smaller.

The new library has ended up the same size as the original library with no room for new books or the research material we were hoping for. But, by God, we have a world-class gymn for basketball games! Nice to know the school has their priorities straight.

Yeah we all get cynical at things like that. And we are proven right just about every time too.

Sports always seems to be the priority. I think sports are important, but after all, shouldn't education be the school's priority?

and not to be the pessimist,,, but you know that i am,,, i am wondering how long it will take them to take away state funding for athletics as they have already done in so many school districts.... maybe you'll get lucky,, and if and when they do they will move the library into the gym!!!!!!!

I work in a school. It's so good to read that stupid decisions concerning education are not exclusive to the UK!

Oh boy do I feel for you and your daughter. Like the prompt, I 'instantly was transformed back in time knowing because our daughter's high school went through renovation for 2 years of her time there. My blood is starting to boil just remembering. (She is at college now.)
May this turn out better for you both soon!
